| Prerequisites |
| 1 | PC requirements |
Install Whoosh Cam PC client Run Whoosh Cam from Start | All Programs | Whoosh Cam |
| 2 | Mobile requirements ( to connect from your phone ) |
| Getting Started |
| 1 | Configure the application |
From the Edit menu, select "Personal details"
First enter a user name and password -- if the user name is not already taken, then a new account will be created for your webcam. Please make a note of your user name and password, so you can login from your mobile phone to access your webcam.
Click "Apply" wait and if there are no error messages, then click "OK" If you want to allow other mobile users to access your webcam, then enter their Whoosh Cam user names in the "Allowed list" - one name on each line. |
| 2 | Start broadcasting images |
Use the menu "Internet | Connect"
If you see no error messages, then the PC client is broadcasting images and you should start to see images from your web camera in the application.
If the image refresh in the PC client is jumpy or slow, then try closing some other applications, because the speed at which the PC application can refresh determines the frame rate. Therefore if the PC client is running slowly, then this will affect the rate at which mobile client can refresh. |
| 3 | Chat with connected users |
To allow people other than yourself to connect to your webcam, you must first add their mobile Whoosh Cam user name to the "allowed list" as shown in section #1 above. When a user connects to your Webcam, the application will add a "Chat" tab. To text chat with the connected user or users, select the Chat tabe and then type into the text field at the bottom of the screen. Press the Enter key to send your message. |
| 4 | Alert preferences |
Whoosh Cam can also be used to alert you via e-mail when there is a change in the image stream, for example, if somebody walks past your webcam when you are out of your home or office. Use the menu "Edit | Alert preferences.." To configure the PC application.
Image change detection works best when the light is consistent for the duration that alerts are enabled, for example, in doors in a well lit room. Please note: fluctuations in the light can trigger unnecessary alerts if the sensitivity is set too high. How to configure the sensitivity:
Having configured the Alert preferences, use the "Internet | Connect camera" menu options. Please note: Alerts have to be enabled each time to start the application. |

Set-up for Java mobile client |
First select your preferred screen size and then select Connect from the menu.
The first time you connect you need to login using the user name and password you created when you configured the PC webcam application. Or if you are only a mobile user and connecting to other people's webcam, enter your name and any password to create an account.
If you see the screen on the right, this means that either your webcam is not online or the user name you entered did not match the user name you entered in the PC application. Alternatively, if you are just a mobile user, this could mean that your user name has not been entered in the "Allowed list" on at least one other person's PC application. |
| Connect to the broadcaster (pc client) | ||||
Having logged in to your account you should see a list of online broadcasters, including your own webcam (if it is online) plus any other Whoosh Cam users that have added you to their "Allowed list"
Select a broadcaster from the list and you should start to see the images from the PC client. |
| Taking and saving snapshot pictures of the webcam | ||||
When you are connected to a webcam and seeing images, press the "select" or "fire" key on your phone. This will take a snapshot picture of the image you are viewing. Select Save to save the picture or Back to return to the image stream. Snapshot images can be viewed by selecting the Snapshot menu from either the start screen of the mobile application or from the "Online" list as shown above. |

| Troubleshooting |
| 1 | When I connect from my phone I can not see my webcam listed |
First check that your PC Whoosh Cam application is connected - if it is connected you should be seeing images from the webcam displayed on your PC. Next. check that the name you used to login to the mobile application is either the same as the one you use to connect from Whoosh Cam your PC or if you entered a different user name on your mobile phone, check that that user name is in your "Allowed list" From the Java mobile application, the name you use to login is displayed on the image size selection screen - please make sure that the name matches exactly. |
| 2 | When running Whoosh Cam on my PC images update very slowly. |
If the PC application is updating very slowly, then try closing some other application to free up memory. If that doesn't help, then try exiting any other applications like Instant Messaging etc that are also accessing the Internet at the same time. |
| 3 | Sometimes when I leave my webcam running all day the picture freezes |
| With some webcams this can happen if you PC goes into power-saving mode. To stop this from happening when you want to leave your webcam running all day, please check your PC energy saving settings. | |
| 4 | Can I make my webcam public? |
| Sorry, not in the Community Edition of this software. | |
| 5 | How can I find out if there is a newer version available to download? |
| Open this help page from time to time can check if the version number at the top of the page has changed. | |
| 6 | When I connect to a webcam I just see "Loading" on the screen |
This maybe because your phone doesn't support JPEG images. Please try downloading version 2.0 of the mobile Java application, which now supports PNG image formats as well as JPEG formats. PNG images are considerably larger than JPEG images, so if your phone only supports PNG images the image refresh rate will be much slower. We therefore recommend selecting the smaller image size -- the application will tell you about this if your phone only supports PNG images. |
| 7 | When I connect images are not displaying correctly |
Please try using version 3.0 of the Whoosh Cam PC application and let us know if that fixes the problem for you? |
